Terms of use

The ground rules for using Pressing Matters and our diagrams.

Last updated: 2 November 2026

Using the site

Pressing Matters is free to read. By using it you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Our words and diagrams

The articles and diagrams on this site are our own work and are protected by copyright. You are welcome to link to any guide, and to quote a short passage with a credit and a link back.

Grassroots coaches may print a guide or a diagram to use with their own team, free of charge. For anything else, including republishing an article, using diagrams in paid courses or putting them in a book, please ask us first.

Club names, competition names and player names belong to their owners. We use them only to describe matches.

Coaching sessions

Our session plans are ideas, not instructions for your particular group. You know your players, your pitch and the conditions on the night far better than we do.

Before running any session, make sure you follow your national football association’s safeguarding and welfare guidance, include a proper warm-up, and adapt the intensity to the age and fitness of the players. We are not responsible for injuries or losses arising from sessions run using our material.

Accuracy and opinion

We work hard to get things right. Tactical claims about real matches are backed by footage or published data and cited with the match and date. Opinion is labelled as opinion.

Even so, mistakes happen. When we find one, or a reader points one out, we correct the article and note the change at the end. The content is provided for general information and we cannot guarantee it is complete or error-free.

Nothing on this site is betting advice, and it should not be used as such.

Messages you send us

If you send us a question or an idea, we may use it to shape a future guide. We will not publish your name or your words without asking you first.

Changes and availability

We may update or remove content, or change these terms, at any time. The date at the top shows when the terms last changed. We aim to keep the site available but cannot promise it will always be.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
